7 Easy Home Remedies for Everyday Ailments

Not every little bump and pain needs to be attended to by a doctor or treated with serious medication. In fact, most common ailments can be cured just as well using simple items from around your house, often with little cost or effort. Using these simple home remedies, you can help save money on expensive medication and keep your body from becoming desensitized to medication when you actually need it.

1. Headaches + Peppermint Oil = Sweet relief

Headaches can hit anytime, anywhere. With this simple home remedy, you'll never be running to the store for aspirin again. To ease the pain of a headache, simply massage the peppermint oil onto key places on your body such as your forehead, the back of your jaw, and your temples. To really get that pampered and relaxed feeling, do this in a quiet room while sipping cool water. Not only will your headache begin to dissipate in minutes, you'll get a much needed break from a hectic day.

2. Muscle Pain

When you've overdone it at the gym, grab some Epsom salt and hit the bath. For relief from sore and stiff muscles, simply add 2 cups Epsom salt to a tub of hot water. This will immediately relax your muscles. An important note is to make sure you wait at least 24 hours after your workout before you hit the bathtub to prevent the loss of any crucial fluids. Make sure to hydrate before, during, and after any exercise to help with muscle cramps.

3. Warm Salt Water for Toothaches

Just mix regular table salt into a glass with warm water and swish it around in your mouth then spit. The salt will pull any excess fluid from the inside of the pain-ridden tooth, providing almost immediate pain relief.

4. Menstrual Cramps

Sorry boys, this trick is for the women. Ladies, when you're suffering through your time of the month, try this trick. Just soak a kitchen towel in lukewarm water. Wring out the excess water and heat in microwave for one minute. After making sure the towel isn't too hot, place on the abdomen. The heat will relax your muscles, immediately relieving the cramps and pain.

5. Burns

Next time you accidentally burn yourself reach for a simple kitchen staple, the potato! Yep, chefs agree that to immediately treat a burn you simply cut a potato in half and shave off some of the cut side. Simply place the potato shavings on the burned skin and enjoy the relief!

6. Cuts

If you're a klutz, you'll need to read this tip. Cayenne pepper is excellent at reliving pain and bleeding. Sprinkle organic ground cayenne pepper on the wound and wrap in a bandage. Leave the bandage on the wound for 1-2 hours then remove. You should begin to feel relief almost instantly.

7. Sore Throat & Cough

Honey has long been touted as a miracle food. Packed with nutritional benefits and healing abilities, honey has been shown to relieve pain from a sore throat while fighting whatever is causing the soreness. Mix with your drink of choice (we recommend green tea) or just take a spoonful by itself. The honey will make you feel better and suppress that pesky cough.
